With increasing competition for public funding in science, more researchers are looking for other sources to finance their work. Could philanthropic organisations, crowdsourcing, private companies, non-profits, and professional groups support your research?

In our next #ECRWednesday webinar Brianne Kent (Chair ECAG, Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia) will be joined by Maryrose Fanko (Executive Director, Health Research Alliance), Professor Herve Vanderschuren (University of Liege, Belgium), and others, to discuss private sources of funding in science – from perspectives of a funder as well as a successful grantee.

Our speakers will provide insight into how to find such opportunities, and what attracts the funders to a project or researcher. Together, we will consider key factors to consider when applying for private versus public grants.

If you’re an early-career scientist launching your independent research program, and you’re interested in smaller grants to fund risky pilot projects that will provide the foundation for larger grant applications, private sources of funding may be of particular importance to you.
