Statistics on methods associated with challenged claims
Where possible, the reasons behind major claims that were challenged were categorized (see full list in Supplementary Table S2). This table shows the likely reasons for major claims to be challenged, and the percentage of claims that were challenged due to that reason. Only one major claim per article was considered, as the same methodological issue often applied to multiple claims from the same article (Nb of articles=49). 1: The data were interpreted in a certain (erroneous) way due to a lack of available context at the time that the article was published, or alternative explanations were not effectively ruled out. 2: The effects observed were not due to a direct effect on immunity but instead due to effects on development of immune tissues or organs, including hemocytes.
