Privacy Notice: List of Early Career Researchers for Authors

This Notice relates to data included in the listing of Early-Career Researchers, who can be invited to review scientific manuscripts, which is made available in our guides to authors who are considering submitting their work to the journal, as well as in our submission forms when authors are ready to submit. For all other personal data processing by eLife please see our general Privacy Notice at elifesciences.org/privacy.

What is your personal data used for, and why?

We invite Early Career Researchers to participate in our ECR Reviewer programme to increase their opportunities to participate in the peer review of manuscripts submitted to eLife. When authors submit a manuscript to eLife they are given the opportunity of suggesting the names of suitable peer reviewers. In order to encourage inclusion of Early Career Researchers being suggested for this role, we publish a list of participants in our ECR Reviewer programme within our author and reviewer guides, as well as in our submission forms when authors are ready to submit. This Privacy Notice deals specifically with the processing of the data included in this list.

Personal data of Early Career Researchers is only disclosed in this list if they have given their consent.

What types of personal data do we hold?

The list made available to authors and potential authors includes name, institution, country, keywords and a link to a professional webpage if you have provided one.

Who do we share the data with, and why?

We share your data on our website, with authors submitting manuscripts to eLife, editors, reviewers, eLife staff, and with organisations that help us deliver our services. Some of these individuals and organisations are outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

How do we keep the data confidential?

We safeguard your data using appropriate administrative, physical and technical security measures. It is not practical for us to enforce any restrictions on how authors use this data.

How long do we retain the data for?

Your data will remain in this list until you withdraw from the ECR Reviewer programme, or until you ask us to remove it.
