Media coverage: Scicasts

Dr Mark Patterson, eLife’s Executive Director, recently spoke to Kristina Popova at science media platform Scicasts for an article on the evolution of open-access policies and business models. You can read the full article here:

In this feature, Popova discusses the history of the open-access movement, where it is headed and the costs involved.

eLife is brought in to help clarify the true price of open-access publishing, with Patterson explaining the various layers of costs involved across our entire publishing process. He also highlights eLife’s additional investment in innovative technology development, such as our own in-house tool eLife Lens.

You can read Patterson’s comments in full in the article but, generally, he believes “it's a very positive sign that open-access publishing is gaining more and more ground, that new business models are being explored and entirely new approaches to research communication are being investigated."
