Peer Review Week 2019: Thank you to our reviewers for their contributions

Over the past 12 months, more than 5,000 researchers participated in eLife’s consultative peer-review process, evaluating more than 2,600 full submissions.

This Peer Review Week, we’d like to thank the researchers who provide their valuable expertise in reviewing manuscripts submitted to eLife. In the last 12 months, researchers have collectively contributed 7,204 reviews to support our review process, for 2,657 reviewed submissions. We’re grateful for the many hours of careful attention and dedication in support of research.

At eLife, reviewers engage in an online discussion and agree on their major comments before sharing feedback with the authors. This helps to save time on revisions, and limits the likelihood of multiple rounds of review.

In a regular survey of our reviewers* over the course of the last year,

90% of respondents said they would like to recommend this process to other journals.

We also believe that transparency is important. To that end, we publish the most substantive points from the decision letter after review, along with the reviewers’ names where they agree. Over the last two years, approximately one third of our reviewers have revealed their names to the authors.

We’re thankful to all 5,327 reviewers listed here for their support and contributions:

*Feedback is invited from all eLife reviewers after the review process is completed; the results here relate to responses received between September 2018 and August 2019 (n= 1,090).
