Media coverage: Scientists find method for restoring hearing loss in mice

In their Research article -- Neurotrophin-3 regulates ribbon synapse density in the cochlea and induces synapse regeneration after acoustic trauma-- Wan et al. found that they were able to restore hearing in noise-deafened mice by activating a protein to repair crucial connections in the inner ear.The protein, Neurotrophin-3 (NT3), supports the survival of neurons in the central nervous system and also encourages the growth of new neurons and synapses in the body.
