At eLife we aim to make important results openly available as soon as possible – eliminating unnecessary delays in submission, peer review, manuscript proofing, and publication, so authors can more quickly take credit for their hard work. We also know that manuscripts describing important breakthroughs don't have to be very long and now invite you to present your discoveries in 1,500 words or fewer, with eLife Short reports.
You already know that eLife doesn't unnecessarily restrict the length of Research articles, encouraging researchers to present their findings in full, and incorporate all the figures and data needed to tell their story, even if it is a very complex one. With Short reports, we welcome papers that address findings from a single set of experiments, or that are substantial enough to stand alone in 1,500 words or fewer (excluding Materials and methods, references, and figure legends), with no more than three or four display items (figures, tables, videos).
At eLife, working scientists make editorial decisions in a process that emphasises fairness, transparency, and speed. And, it's free to publish.
