Invitation to participate: Libero Community Sprint 2018

A two-week event for developers, designers, technologists and others to contribute to eLife’s open source publishing and hosting platform, Libero.

The eLife Technology team is hosting a Libero Community Sprint for two weeks, starting on August 13, 2018, with a mixture of on-site and remote participation. The event will begin with a two-day workshop held at eLife’s offices in Cambridge, UK, from 10am to 5pm (UTC+1) on August 13 and 14. We will then continue the Sprint with people returning to their usual place of work but contributing remotely, collaborating via remote pairing, daily stand ups and using GitHub and Slack.

eLife’s Libero is an open source platform of tools and services to support research communication. First deployed in February 2016 at eLife, Libero has generated attention from a diverse set of content providers who are interested in open source options for publishing. To give Libero the greatest chance at widespread adoption, we have developed a simple prototype for the community to help develop further, to suit their needs.

Our hope is that a critical mass of developers, designers, technologists and other interested parties can be involved from an early stage and help the community to gain a greater sense of ownership and engagement so that continued contributions are easier in the future. eLife’s goal is to build a minimum viable iteration of Libero before the end of the year, while ensuring the whole community is able to contribute to creating the best product for all potential users.

To apply to register for the Libero Community Sprint, please fill out this form.

Further information about Libero can be found in the Libero organisation on GitHub, which has details on the recent Requests for Comments in the community repository.
