eLife Latest: Welcoming our newest editors

Bringing a broad range of expertise, 143 researchers join eLife’s editorial board and 12 join as Senior Editors.

Since July 2021, 143 scientists have joined our Board of Reviewing Editors from 22 countries across the world. We are also delighted to welcome 12 new Senior Editors. These new editors work across all major areas of research considered for publication at eLife.

eLife continues to improve the process of peer review so that it more effectively conveys the assessment of expert reviewers to authors, readers and other interested parties. We only peer review preprints and we are creating a system in which the outputs of peer review are the primary way research is assessed, rather than journal title. This approach brings together the immediacy and openness of a preprint with the scrutiny offered by peer review.

Researchers who have recently joined as Senior Editors include:

  • Amy H. Andreotti, Iowa State University
  • Ricardo Azziz, University at Albany, SUNY
  • Arturo Casadevall, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
  • Murim Choi, Seoul National University
  • Claude Desplan, New York University
  • Benoît Kornmann, University of Oxford
  • Christian R. Landry, Université Laval
  • Caigang Liu, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University
  • Tony Ng, Vanderbilt University Medical Center
  • W Kimryn Rathmel, Vanderbilt University Medical Center
  • Jonathan Roiser, University College London

Our Senior Editors are responsible for maintaining the high quality and broad scope of the work published in eLife. They decide, in consultation with appropriate Reviewing Editors, whether a paper should be sent for peer review. All manuscripts selected for review are then assigned to an appropriate Reviewing Editor who recruits reviewers and oversees the online consultation among referees.
