The morphology in our method is described by a self-closing curve in three dimensions, which is indicated by red on the plot. We shall refer to this curve as the morphology loop. A point of the cell is visited once, if it is a terminal point of a dendrite, more than twice, if it is a branching point and twice in all the other cases. With this strategy, any point on the morphology loop uniquely identifies the physical location of the corresponding part of the cell unambiguously. To set up estimation framework, we distribute one-dimensional, overlapping Gaussian basis functions spanning the current sources.
